Our client, a disabled senior, recently came to us with an almost $10,000 default judgment already entered against her in a collections case. She receives limited Social Security benefits and was extremely stressed because the plaintiff had filed a Writ of Garnishment against her bank, meaning that the plaintiff is allowed to seize funds through the bank until her debt was paid off.
We assisted our client with a Claim of Exemption, which protects property or income from being taken by a creditor to pay a debt. Our client filed it, and the plaintiff voluntarily dissolved its Writ of Garnishment. Our client was relieved of her financial burden.
